There's a boat to see such creatures from Rausu Port in early morning, and you can enjoy watching them very close!◎Car is convenient here. It's better to come to Rausu the day before and stay at night, then leave for Rausu Port in early morning. The drift ice starts to arrive from the end of February. As soon as the drift ice arrives, you can watch Steller's sea eagle and others like that, but after a while, you can see sea lions. By the way, these eagles get together for the fish thrown from this tour boat, so you have a great chance to watch them.

Fukuhara Sanso Lodge's garden is opened to public only during autumn. There're as many as 1000 trees of ruby-red momiji (Japanese maple tree) that are rarely seen in Hokkaido. After the leaves fall, the whole ground becomes like a red carpet. What's more, there're waterfalls and pond in the garden, you can enjoy walking around.◎Autumn leaves are in its best during the first week of October.

Mikuni Touge Pass

Mikuni Touge Pass is the highest national road in Hokkaido. There's a great view of Matsumi Bridge and nature. We can meet the yellow leaves in autumn and lively green in summer. Beside the observatory, Mikuni Touge cafe's sausage curry is also delicious.

I visited Hiraoka Jugei Center to see its garden, but I was moved with this wonderful scenery of a street lined with red leaves. It was raining on that day, I want to come again on sunny day.◎It's located a little far from the nearest station, it's better for you to come by car.

Shikaribetsu Lake

Shikaribetsu Lake Kotan is an icy village appears only in midwinter on the frozen lake surface. There're bar, open-air bath of ice, and even ice houses! We can enjoy the cold Hokkaido to our hearts' content. You need cars or bus to access here. We stay in the ice house (igloo) in the third pic, and rent sleeping bags and winter outfits, or we can run to the hotel when we're cold. The Milky Way can be seen before dawn in the late February.

You can see the scenery from the road, but be sure not to enter the fields.◎Access: usually by a rental car. Bibaushi Station is the nearest if you use railroad, but I think it's better to use taxi from Biei Station.
