The scenery changes with the tide, and specially, the reflections on the calm sea in early morning was so amazing that I associated with the famous Uyuni Salt Lake! At the end of our autumn travel in Hokkaido, we looked for somewhere to see near Shin Chitose Airport and found this lake. In fact, Utonai Lake is a sanctuary of wild birds such as Whooper Swan, which is registered under the Ramsar Convention. Wild swans were so close to me, I was very impressed! ◎Easy access by bus from Shin Chitose Airport. There's a parking area at nearby road station. By the way, if the wild birds come close to you, please don't feed them!
