Shirakawago

21 Reviews

Shirakawa Village is a heavy snowfall area, but it snowed not so much for us to visit here this winter. And we can enjoy the snowy landscape as much as we want! It will snow more during February, so you're still in time to see this scenery.

Retro Town In Takayama

5 Reviews

The alleys with latticed walls and waterways make us feel like traveling to the old Edo Period (around 1600-1860). The castle town are lined with many long-established shops. And a government office at that time 'Takayama Jinya' and the morning market are also famous as tourist spots. You can touch the history and cultures of Hida Region.◎12min walk from JR Takayama Station. There're many toll parking areas.

Magomejuku

2 Reviews

Magomejuku is an area flourished as a post-town of Nakasendo Road. There're old houses along the road still now. I tried to take the mountains with houses together in one picture thanks to the houses t\standing on a slope, I could enjoy taking pictures. It's famous as a stage of a novel "Yoake-mae" (Before the Dawn) by Toson Shimazaki, whose beginning is 'Kiso Roads are all in the mountains'.◎Parking area is available. We can use bus from JR Nakatsugawa Station.

Tokoname Yakimono Path

Dokan-zaka slope is made by earthenware pipes and bottles to prevent wall collapse, and town of shops with wooden warmth. When you walk on the pottery road, you can enjoy the feeling like time travel.

Building Above The River

1 Reviews

In Toyohashi, many people go toward Hirokoji Shopping District but don't go toward the building above the river. But they were built in Showa Era and its retro mood is worth visiting. You can enjoy some cafes and Japanese style bars, so I want you to visit once by any means!◎5 min walk from the east exit of Toyohashi Station.

Hotei Daibutsu (Statue Of Buddha In Hotei)

2 Reviews

It's a curious spot you can see a statue of Buddha (Hotei's Daibutsu) wearing sunglasses! And its eyes flash in red when the lights blinks.◎Access: walk 10 or 15min from Hotei Station of Inuyama Line

From Tenshukaku Observatory, you can have a stunning view of Shirakawago like you see in a travel brochures. I felt deep emotion that I could come to a world heritage 'Shirakawago' in front of this breathtaking scenery. You must visit this observatory if you come to Shirakawago though it's not so large observatory.◎Though you find a long line of people to wait a shuttle bus to the observatory, you can ride it sooner than you expect because many people can take one bus at once. Some guidebooks say it takes 30 min walk to the observatory, but the local people told us it's not good to walk in winter because we may happen to meet the snow falling down on the way to the observatory.

What is most outstanding is the vivid orange color of the moored ship body. People recall several scenes appearing some movies and TV series describing Antarctic research expeditions. Beside it at lawn square, there's a statue of Taro & Jiro, Sakhalin dogs that had survived in Antarctica.
