The best thing of Ashikaga Flower Park is this Great Wisteria. It was transplanted by the first Japanese woman tree doctor, thought to be over 150 years old, and spreads over a 600-tatami area! What's more, the wisteria flowers are beautifully lit up at night. Though you can't visit during the best season of the Great Wisteria, you can enjoy the pale pink, white and yellow ones.◎Ashikaga Flower Park Station, the new station of JR Ryomo Line, opened in 2018, and it takes 1 min on foot to the park. Parking area is also available.

I could see the autumn colored leaves even though it was still October. The balance of autumn colors and waterfalls is exquisite. In addition, you can take a shelter from the rain and take a rest at a tea house located just near here.

Though pictures are prohibited, Ōya Kan'non is a thousand-armed Kannon carved in in stone. There're 10 Magai-butsu (images of Buddha carved in stone walls) which are oldest in Japan, and all of them are nation's historic sites. It's really surprising that they're carved in the ancient Horizontal Stone Chamber. Admission fees: 400 yen. Access: 25 min by bus from JR Utsunomiya Station, then 1 min walk. By car, 10 min from Utsunomiya IC.

Isoyama Benzaiten Shrine is built up on the steep slope of cliff and mountain, and uses the limestone as it is for the walls, which is really rare in Japan. The scenery of the Kanto Plain seen from the shrine is decorated with the greens around, and makes me sigh with its beauty.◎Access by train, use Sano Station of JR Ryomou Line. By city bus, 35 min from Sano Station of Tobu Sano Line, to Akami Onsen. By car, 15 min from Sano Tanuma IC, or 30 min from Sano Fujioka IC.

The villa Aqua opened in 2016 at this hotel. There is a water garden, and the balcony has an open-air bath and a sofa. You can take a bath 24 hours a day in a quiet and spacious space. There is also a pick-up service about 10 minutes by car from Nikko Station, so you can reach it with confidence even if you go by train. ..
