Kamo Tarashi Chaya is Sweets Restaurant Located in Front of Gates of Shimogamo Shrine, World Heritage Site, Birthplace of Mitarashi Dango Kamomitarashichaya

Founded in 1923. Mitarashi dango, which is grilled until golden brown and coated in a secret sauce, is said to have its origins in molded bubbles gushing out of the Mitarashi Pond inside Shimogamo Shrine and dedicated to a shrine to pray for good health. The five dumplings on a skewer are separated from one another to form the head, representing the five bodies. It's a popular restaurant with long lines, so we recommend visiting early in the morning.
