Suruga Bay has the biggest haul of whitebaits in Japan. You can eat fresh row whitebaits only in the limited area near the fishing port, because it goes bad quickly. The best season is spring and autumn, enjoy the two kinds of textures, row and boiled, at the same time on one bowl.

Shimoji-jima is an island made by the raised coral reefs. The sea is so clear that you can see the colorful corals even above the water at the shoal reefs. At low tide, the corals are about to show their faces from the water surface.

This rice bowl is loved by the islanders as a name of 'zuke-don of fishing cooperative'. One of the 100 beautiful shores in Japan, and scenic spot spreading from Irabu Island to Shimoji Island. Big rocks lying on the sea sloped gently away and the shore change its expressions by the ebb and flow of the tide. I'd like you to visit there when the setting sun is reflected on the quiet water surface like a mirror.

It's a local sushi made of 'zuke', Spanish mackerel or tuna preserved in soy sauce, and sweetened rice. It was originally handed down from Hachijo Island to Daito island. Then, now it's famous as a lunch box you can buy at Naha Airport and eat in a plane, this shop sells it.

The bridge connects Aka-shima Island and Kerama Islands. Please take a walk here when you come the island. If it's sunny, you can have a wide superb view of the clearest sea from the both side of the bridge. Sometimes on the morning, you chance to meet sea turtles and mantas going under the bridge.

The beach has highest rate of encounter with turtles among the other beaches in Kerama Islands. The locals say big and small 9 turtles live here. Keeping in mind that you don't touch and run after too much, then you swim together with them, it'll become unforgettable experiences.

Hyakudan-kaidan' (one hundred steps) is a wooden architecture and a tangible cultural property of Tokyo. It was built in the beginning of Showa era as a banquet room. The interiors of the seven Japanese rooms are worth seeing! During summer, the collaboration exhibition with lights like Japanese festivals and artistic lights wins popularity. Some people wear yukata, summer kimono, and enjoy it.
