Dazaifutenmangu is a shrine sacred to a god Tenjin, Michizane Sugawara. When Michizane was degraded to Kyushu, he was compelled to composed a poem toward the plum tree standing at his residence in Kyoto. 'When the east wind blows, please send your fragrance, my plum blossoms, and don't forget spring though I'm not here.' Then a tradition says that the plum tree has flown to Fukuoka to chase him. Now, the legendary 'Flying Plum Tree (Tobi-ume)' is blooming with many white blossoms!
